''NBA skips event attended by Regmi''

''KATHMANDU, MAY 09 - The umbrella organisation of lawyers skipped a programme organised to mark Law Day by the Supreme Court on Thursday.

Nepal Bar Association ( NBA ) representatives were found absent at the function citing the presence of Chairman of Interim Election Government Khil Raj Regmi in the event.'

"This day is celebrated in memory of separation of power after the judicial authority was wrested from Rana-era council to the Supreme Court ," said NBA General Secretary Sunil Pokharel.

Since Regmi has been assuming dual roles as the head of judiciary and executive, we did not think it was necessary to celebrate the day, he said. Pokharel maintained that the NBA had not taken any formal decision to that effect.'

May 9 is celebrated as Law Day following the establishment of the Supreme Court in 1951. The NBA has been protesting against Regmi for assuming dual roles. However, the apex court has issued an order stating that Regmi be addressed only as the government chairman.'

Apex court assistant spokesperson Hemanta Rawal said the apex court had invited the NBA . "We cannot say why they did not attend," he said.'' 

Home Minister urges all to cooperate in CA elections

KATHMANDU, APR 06 -
Minister for Home and Foreign Affairs Madhav Prasad Ghimire has urged all to cooperate in the Constituent Assembly (CA) elections stating that the election was the important responsibility of the government.
At a greetings exchange and honoring programme organized by the Raniban Nasikadhoka Drinking Water and Sanitation Consumer´s Committee in the Capital on Saturday, he said as the state will get an outlet from the election, the government will leave no stone unturned for the same.
Ghimire also directed to complete the project by well management of resources for the development of the people in the locality and urged for quality and financial transparency in works.
Minister Ghimire was welcomed by Committee Chairman Lal Kumar Lama, members, and locals with bouquets.
Deputy Director General of the Department of Drinking Water and Drainages, Ram Chandra Devkota and Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Forest and Soil Conservation Prem Narayan Kandel made commitment to cooperate with the project. RSS
